Vet Crisis Fund – A Helping Hand
In hard times, we understand that caring for pets may become a struggle. That is why we created the Vet Crisis Fund. The Vet Crisis fund provides a helping hand to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, to ensure their beloved pets still have access to urgent health care when they need it the most.
The Vet Crisis Fund is by no means a handout, but rather a hand up. It is a circular fund, meaning as each client pays off their vet bill, the funds then become available to help more people and pets in need. The program provides a platform to empower pet owners on low incomes to provide care for and make responsible decisions regarding their pets, while avoiding unnecessary suffering or euthanasia due to lack of funds.
Please note, our Vet Crisis Fund is currently only available in South Australia and for use at our approved partner clinics. Access to the fund is subject to pre-approval and availability of funds at the time.

We often get calls from interstate and people that might not be eligible for our service. To help we’ve have compiled a list of resources outside of SA that might be able to assist.

Meet Frida
Frida the fun-loving, runaway pooch came to our attention after a call from St Johns Youth Services. After getting carried away with excitement while chasing a kangaroo, Frida suffered a broken leg. Frida’s only option was costly surgery worth thousands of dollars, which sadly her owners were not able to pay up-front, meaning her parents would need to either euthanise or surrender her.
Thankfully, Frida’s vet at Victor Vets was kind enough to provide intermediate care by casting her leg and prescribing medication at a capped cost of $500. This generous assistance allowed Safe Pets Safe Families to organise discounted surgery at one of our partner vets, the Tea Tree Gully Vet. On top of access to the Vet Crisis Fund, Safe Pets Safe Families also ran a fundraising drive to bring the cost down for the owner.
Frida did not want to lose her loving family, and they didn’t want to suffer the loss of her either, so we are thrilled to have been there in their time of need to get such a fantastic result.
